Lately I’ve gone on a smoothie-making escapade. Nearly every day for the past 2 weeks, I’ve made a smoothie for my morning breakfast and I’ve found it quite filling between the protein and fiber content! Best part of all? You can take smoothies on the go! If you’re worried in the morning that you won’t have enough time for breakfast or if you just want a few extra minutes in bed, you can make the smoothie at night, store it in the fridge and then grab and go in the AM. Easy peasy!
The protein powder I prefer is Vegan Proteins+. It’s a great blend of non-GMO pea, cranberry, brown rice, alfalfa and hemp which are all vegetarian proteins. Per scoop, there is a whopping 20g of protein, 8 essential amino acids, 8 vitamins and 13 minerals. Yep, you’re welcome.
This smoothie includes one tablespoon of flaxseed which offers a high fiber content. You can get even more benefits however if you use ground flaxseeds. When we grind the flaxseeds, omega-3 fatty acids and lignans are released. Lignans help to limit the effects of cancer-promoting estrogen by attaching themselves to estrogen receptors. As for the fiber itself, flax is high in soluble fiber which promotes lower cholesterol levels and reduces the risk of heart disease. Have I convinced you yet? Just remember to store your flaxseed in a air-tight container either in the fridge or freezer. Flaxseed will go rancid if left out for too long due to oxidation and we don’t want that!

Wake-Me-Up Peach and Raspberry Smoothie Recipe
1 scoop of whey protein powder
1 whole peach, pitted and sliced
1/2 cup frozen raspberries (or Strawberries)
3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 Tbsp ground flax seed
3 ice cubes
Combine all ingredients into a blender or magic bullet. Process until smooth. Drink up!
