So we begin another week…
I have to say I am downright exhausted from this weekend between the dreaded daylight savings spring forward and the surprise engagement party my amazing friends through me on Saturday night. I’m still recovering from a few too many Skinny Girl Margaritas. As I’m not much of a drinker, it doesn’t take very many to put me over the edge!
I am still in disbelief that my friends pulled it off. Not in a million years did I expect them to throw me an engagement party and to make it a surprise went over the top. I had spent the day shopping at IKEA and Homesense with my friends Sara and Shivonne. I figured we would go back to Sara’s house afterward, have a bite to eat and then head out to a movie or go dancing. When I walked into Sara’s house and everyone jumped out at me though, I thought that there was a mistake and that no one had told me they were throwing a surprise party for Sara! Then when I realized all of the girls were my friends, I thought to myself, “Oh shoot! I already have plans!”. What an idiot, I am…
Needless to say, it meant so much to me to have my girlfriends in one room to celebrate with me. There was soooo much food, but thankfully they were great at keeping things on the healthier side so I didn’t feel too guilty…except for the mini eggs that everyone knows I can never say “no” to. My other Maid of Honour, Carly made unbelievable dark chocolate covered strawberries for dessert and drizzled them with white chocolate. They looked impeccable and were absolutely delicious. The picture below gives you an idea of the awesome spread.
Well enough bragging from me! I have a wickedly-delicious (but oh-so-healthy) protein shake for you today. It was inspired from Dr. Natasha Turner’s Hormone Diet recipe, so you know it will be yummy and good for you. The spinach is optional, but I definitely recommend it since it helps you get more veggies without even realizing you are. I also recommend that you use a protein powder that is free of sugar or artificial sweeteners (stevia is allowed). The kind I use is Vegan Protein + which is all-natural vegetarian protein including non-GMO pea, cranberry, brown rice, alfalfa and hemp. One serving is 20 grams of protein, 13 minerals and 8 vitamins. I use vanilla, but they have strawberry, double-chocolate and natural in case any of those float your boat.
The recipe below actually makes a great meal, but if you are looking for a post-workout snack, Dr. Turner recommends reducing the fruit and milk by half. The best thing about this smoothie is that it tastes like a decadent chocolate milkshake. I’m down for skipping straight to dessert. Are you?
Chocolate Banana Protein Shake Recipe

1/2 small banana
1/2 tsp cinnamon
4 ice cubes
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp ground flaxseed
1/2 cup almond milk
