Clean Chocolate Mousse

Not everything chocolate needs to break a healthy diet. I am definitely not one to put chocolate down, no matter how badly I want to reach a goal. It’s just not going to happen. Sorry. To be honest, I don’t think it helps any to restrain ourselves from eating what we love (although moderation is always key). In my experience, avoiding our true food loves altogether only results in a binge later on. Not pleasant!

Vegan-Chocolate-Mousse

The other night, I was on Facebook, presumably wasting time, that is until I saw a friend post a beautiful, glowing photo of chocolate mousse. I messaged her instantly for the recipe which turned out to be quite a healthy alternative to the typical sugar and bad fat loaded mousse I’ve seen in the past. Instead, this dessert is made with avocados, banana, cocoa and honey. The result? A creamy, smooth, CLEAN, chocolate delight that will have you salivating at the sight. How can I possibly resist? Oh and did I mention that it is gluten-free and vegan? HALLELUJAH!

In the name of Valentine’s Day, I think you owe yourself a little somethin’ somethin’….being chocolate-y goodness, of course! I recommend adding some strawberries or coconut on top just to add a little pizzazz. Also, I used 1/4 cup of raw honey and 1/8 cup of agave syrup, as noted in the recipe below. The original recipe however called for 1/2 cup of honey or maple syrup, but use whatever healthy sweetener you have in your kitchen, and I’m sure you’ll achieve the same delicious dessert.

Many thanks to Sam for sending over this little gem! I owe ya one!!!

Clean Chocolate Mousse Recipe
Makes 4 servings

2 avocados
1 banana
1/4 cup raw honey
1/8 cup agave syrup (or 1/2 cup of honey or maple syrup and no agave)
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup cocoa

Peel the avocados and throw away the pits. Scoop the avocados out of their skins and into a food processor or blender. Add in the banana. Add the honey and agave syrup. (You can add in 1/2 cup of honey or maple syrup rather than add in agave syrup). Add vanilla and cocoa. Blend together until all ingredients are combined and the consistency is smooth. Transfer the mousse in a container and chill in fridge for 20-30 minutes. Serve chilled, garnished with fruit, coconut or cocoa nibs.
